Being Human

Being Human (UK) season four has just started on BBC America and I am loving it. I do miss Mitchell, and George, and Nina, but we have a new cast of characters that have captured my interest.

We still have the adorable Annie as the resident ghost, but we have a new vampire and a werewolf who was introduced in the last season..

Hal is the vampire, played by Damien Molony, who has gone fifty-five years without feeding on humans, thanks to his friends, Leo, the werewolf, and Pearl, the ghost. After -SPOILER!!!- Leo dies and Pearl confesses her love for him, they both move on leaving Hal alone. So he is invited to stay in the now almost empty house. Michael Socha returns as Tom the werewolf and comes to stay as well.

Nina delivered her baby before being killed and it’s name is Eve. Eve plays a big part in this season, but I won’t reveal anymore.

So make sure to tune in Saturdays to BBC America to watch!

Writing Woes

No, that is not me

I have this all-consuming need to write a story. I have started many and finished none. Mostly because I lose interest in a certain topic and go on to another one. I was not blessed with the talent that some possess (like my sister), I have to continually work at it so it becomes halfway enjoyable. My writing is far from where I’d like it to be.

I suppose all I can do is practice though it seems like my writing is the same as always and not really improving. At the moment I’m thinking about a vampire story. I know, I know, it’s been done and overdone, but I have always had this need to write a vampire story. Vampires have always been something I’ve been fascinated with. They’re powerful, scary, violent, and yet, beautiful.

Maybe one day I’ll see my name on the cover of a book and look back to this post as say, “I made it.”

The Moth Diaries

“The Moth Diaries” is a book by Rachel Klein that came out into 2002. It is now being made into a movie starring Sarah Bolger as Rebecca or the owner of the diary, Lily Cole as Ernessa, Sarah Gadon as Lucie, and Scott Speedman as Mr. Davies. Here is the summary for it, taken from Surburban Vampire:

“Rebecca (Sarah Bolger), a young girl who, haunted by her father’s suicide, enrolls in an elite boarding school for girls. Before long, Rebecca’s friendship with the popular Lucie (Sarah Gadon) is shattered by the arrival of a dark and mysterious new student named Ernessa (Lily Cole). Lucie falls under Ernessa’s spell and becomes emotionally and physically consumed by her glamorous new friend. Rebecca, whose overtures of concern are rejected by Lucie, finds herself lost and confused. She begins to develop a crush on her handsome English teacher, Mr. Davies (Scott Speedman), and immerses herself in the Gothic vampire novel CARMILLA for his class. Rebecca starts to suspect that Ernessa is a vampire, but, despite the suspicious deaths that begin to occur, her fears are treated as simple girlish jealousy.

As the bodies of young girls pile up and the line between reality and the supernatural starts to blur, Rebecca decides to take matters into her own hands and get rid of Ernessa. Who can say what is real and what is unreal to the heart consumed by passion and a mind afire with loss?”

Enoch Bolles

Enoch Bolles was one of the earliest “glamor” illustrators and is famous today for being a pin-up artist. He was born in Florida in 1883 and died in 1976. In 1923 he became the main artist for the magazine “Film Fun” which was banned in many countries. He continued to illustrate the covers until the magazine stopped being made in 1943. He is offically a favorite artist of mine, his women have a sort of unusual look about them that I love.

Lips as Red as Blood, Hair as Black as Ebony, and Skin as White as Snow

There will be two Snow White movies coming out soon, one is called “Snow White & the Huntsman” and the other is “Mirror, Mirror”. I personally more excited for “Snow White & the Huntsman” because it is more my thing but I do love everything Tarsem Singh (the director of ”Mirror, Mirror”) does so we will see.

“Mirror, Mirror” stars Lily Collins as Snow White, Julia Robert as the Queen and Armie Hammer as Prince Andrew Alcott.

“Snow White & the Huntsman” stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the Queen, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, and Sam Claflin as Prince William.

Which are you excited for?

Anne Briggs

Anne Briggs is is new to me, but I love her songs “Reynardine” and “The Snow It Melts the Soonest”. Anne is a English folk musician that was popular in the seventies and sixties.

This first one is “Reynardine” which is an old folk ballad, Reynardine is normally a werefox who seduces young women and makes them search for his castle. Sometimes he’s a vampire. Reynard in French legend is a trickster fox.

This second one is “The Snow It Melts the Soonest” which she popularized in  the sixties.
